What is NOBAB

NOBAB is a NGO which was founded by the five nordic countries, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden in the year 1979. Originally the objective was is to promote wellfare and wellbeing of sick children during and after stay in hospital. The organisation has therefore over the years focused its activities on flaws and deficiencies in the care and the situation of children who have to stay in hospital because of their illness. Still quite a lot of efforts goes to matters concerning hospital stay but the organisation has widened its scope of activities and by now uses a great del of its resources to handle all contacts of children with the health care system and other social systems which may affect the quality of life of a sick child.

The organisation wants to bring attention to:

• The children’s point of view.                                                                                                     
• Childrens experiences and views are at least as important as the medical facts.
• The role of the family and friends is essential.
• Healthcare personel are guests in the life of a sick child
• Sometimes a hospital has to become the home of a sick child
• Illness of a child should never be a financial burden to a family
